The City of Hampton has two distinct areas with links to the Chesapeake Bay, the downtown Hampton waterfront area and the Phoebus/Fort Monroe area. Both have things for visitors to see and do, including museums, historic architecture, shops, and entertainment. There’s plenty to see in Hampton’s downtown waterfront area, including the Virginia Air and Space Museum and a restored antique carousel.The Air and Space Museum has an IMAX theater where you can view films in high quality digital 3D. During the winter months there’s even an outdoor skating rink. There are often outdoor events scheduled for downtown during the summer months, including the popular Saturday Summer Street Fest.At Fort Monroe, you can visit the historic fort and see Old Point Comfort lighthouse. The fort was strategically located on a point at the mouthof the Bay and it’s one of the prettiest locations in the area. The nearby Phoebus neighborhood has lots of antique shops, galleries and restaurants, plus the American Theater.
